We start the day off with Drama and French in the Gym, where students are beginning to practice their performance for the French Café taking place on May 10th at 12pm (mark in your calendars).
After that students came to class and we had our usual morning routine with circle time, Show & Tell and healthy snacks.
Students then attended Gym class.
Right before lunch we had Reading Groups. Students were encouraged sound out blends and sight words like bib, pan, den, lad, bit, mug, ham, ten, fit and pet.
After lunch we had Language Arts where students completed two worksheets. The first one they had to look at the picture and circle the letter that they could hear at the beginning of the word. Second worksheet they had to say the name of each picture and circle the correct beginning blend. At this stage it is important to encourage students to say the name of things out loud, so they are able to hear themselves and to spell the words.
In Math we played a game called “Picture Sort”. Students had different pictures of activities that take a short time to do or a longer time to do. They had to cut out the activities and sort the cards in those two categories.
For numeracy skills students completed an activity where they had to follow instructions and color a picture by number.
In our Unit of Inquiry, students learned that black bears find a sheltered den to sleep in. They completed a page for their bear booklet and used tissue paper for the cave.
To finish off the day we had 3 centers in our class: arts, sorting sets and puzzles.
Have a great evening!
