Fun fun fun!

Today we spent quite some time practicing scissor cutting.
Scissor cutting is an essential skill that will help students to improve their handwriting.
Scissor cutting, with a proper scissor grasp, will give the the tripod fingers lots of practice in working together and will strengthen your child's hand muscles. This will help to improve fine motor skills and to develop the correct pencil grasp for good handwriting. Whenever you have the chance (and time) encourage your child to use scissors at home, of course, always giving clear instructions on what to cut. :)
Enjoy the pictures...

Picture form

Dear Parents,
A picture form was sent home last Friday. Please check the pose, the background colour and send it back to school. I'll keep the form in your child's agenda until Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Thank you!

Lost and...hope to be found :)

A student has lost her St. Jude's navy blue sweater. Please check if you have an extra one at home.
I appreciate your co-operation.

Happy Monday!!!

Today we start off the day with morning circle time and healthy snacks.
In Language Arts, students met our new animal friend of the week: Larry Lion!
We learned a little bit about lions today and specifically that "Ll" says l,l,l.
After practicing our phonics song, students made their own Larry Lion, using paper, tissue paper, googly eyes and black felt. Everyone enjoyed!
In our UOI we talked about our new transdiciplinary theme: How We Express Ourselves.
Our central idea is: Story telling provides a way for people to express ideas and develop imagination.
In the next 8 weeks we will be inquiring on the following:
·  Our favourite stories.
·  Retelling and recording stories.
·  Creating and expressing our own stories.
I am very exciting about this unit as it will encourage students to use their imagination!
In Math we also started a new unit on Number Sense. Here are the key learning goals for this unit:
  • Recognize that the last number in a count tells how many objects have been counted.
  • Recognize that counting can begin and end at any point in a sequence and can be applied to any size or variety of objects.
  • Recognize and write numerals from 1 to 10.
  • Sort, classify, and count the number of objects in a set
  • Estimate and count to identify sets with more fewer, or the same number of objects.
As an introduction to the unit, students were asked to share with the class how many people are in their family. Next, students were encouraged to represent each family member using playdough and finally draw a picture of their family. Take a look in our Math Makes Sense board.
To finish off the day students practiced numbers and letters on dry erase books and manipulated twizers with pompoms.
Have a great evening everyone!
