Patterns, Patterns Everywhere!

Today we had a great Pattern Day!
We began the day with morning circle time and healthy snacks. After that, students wrote in their agendas. We have been practicing "finger space" (in between the words) whenever students copy a sentence from the white board. Next we had our Show and Tell. A special thank you to Vishva who brought a delicious watermelon to share with the class.
In Math, students cut strips of paper, we divided the class in 3 groups and they worked collaboratively in order to create a color pattern using red, yellow and red paper. We also, talked about action pattern. To help students to understand we played the Chicken Dance...enjoy the video!
Patterns are all around us, from the clothing we wear to the repeating patterns found in nature and everyday routine. Patterning is also a basic math skill upon which many mathematical concepts are based. Times tables, addition and skip counting all require an understanding of and proficiency in patterning. In JK, identifying and creating patterns is just the beginning of the mastery of life-long mathematical skills.
In Art Class students created patterns using painting with cotton swab.
To finish off the day we had an assembly where students who participated in the Poem contest got an award.
Have an awesome weekend everyone!
